How To Stop Breed Bans - New eBook

I started writing DogPolitics blog over three years ago, ignited by the issue of breed specific legislation after rescuing my dog - a "pitbull" mix - from the streets of Newark, NJ.

Since that time, breed bans and other forms of breed-specific legislation have spread like wildfire across the United States, Canada and around the world.

Sadly, thousands of innocent dogs have been literally snatched from the arms and homes of loving dog owners, OR dumped in shelters, condemned to die - all due to breed specific legislation.

The proponents of BSL include not just ignorant local legislators, but the very organizations that portray themselves as helping animals.

I am speaking explicitly about the Humane Society of the United States and PETA - organizations that directly support and promote breed specific legislation.

The efforts by PETA and HSUS to advance breed specific legislation are a betrayal of trust that so many give, and disservice to those desperately workingso hard  -but worst of all, PETA & HSUS spell nothing but homelessness, fear and death for dogs that look a certain way.

We know first hand, as those of us who own "targeted breeds  or have the courage stand up to fight BSL have been painted by HSUS & PETA as criminals, drug dealers, or dog fighters.

The latest spin from PETAphiles and the supporters of HSUS now casts us as greedy, evil dog breeders and puppymillers. 

I can assure you I am none of those.

I can also assure you that, in stark contrast to the image of pitbull owners that PETA & HSUS consistently portrays to the media, I neither a drug dealer, or a gang member.  I am not a hoodlum.

Blacks and Hispanics should be outraged. There is no doubt that PETA & HSUS have deliberately used racism to drive the media hype and public fear. 

I am all about breaking that stereotype & the HSUS/PETA myth.

I am a white, middle-aged female.   I am a wife,  I am a mother.  I do not show dogs. I do not breed dogs. I only own rescued animals.  I'm a liberal and a registered voter.

And now I'm really pissed off.

So to help level the playing field for the thousands of innocent dogs and their owners  who are fighting to stop BSL -  and fighting a match that's been fixed from the start - I've decided to add my 2 cents - in the form of an eBook.

Dear Oprah - Profiting From Puppymills, HSUS & Wayne Pacelle

On this day , the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's assassination, it is the ultimate irony that Oprah's broadcast today will feature an "expose" on puppymills with none other than the leader of the Humane Society of the United States - Wayne Pacelle.

Ironic in the sense that Oprah, as a revered and iconic African American and a woman who has broken so many racial and gender barriers, would invite HSUS  -  an organization responsible for facilitating the racial profiling, redlining, and the deprivation of basic civil rights of so many people - especially African Americans, Latinos and other people of color.

In my corporate life,  I have helped many of the world's largest companies and most recognizable brands build diversity communications campaigns - campaigns which break racial or gender stereotypes,  address hidden racism, and communicate tolerance and respect.

There is no question that puppymills, bad shelters and others who keep animals in filthy, cruel and inhumane conditions are issues that need to be in the spotlight and addressed.

But to invite the Humane Society if the United States  - an organization that deliberately fans the flames of racism in order to profit financially and advance a covert legislative agenda - shows that Oprah may have once again been duped.

So here is my letter to Oprah, which I hope you will share:

We hear Tammy Grimes - that convicted dog thief and leader of Dogs Deserve Better - is hitting the road on a 12-city tour to stalk dogs  in an effort whip up the emotional support for anti-tethering laws,  which basically legalizes dog theft.

That's right - Tammy and her band of  stalkers and dog thieves will visit 12 cities to identify targets of opportunity, photograph potential new "inventory", and decide on which dogs & owners to exploit for the upcoming PR blitz.

Super Tuesday - Dog Owners Send A Message Of Change

What's that?  You fed up with all those anti-dog, anti-pitbull laws? 

Tired of local legislators like Lloyd Levine doing the bidding of lying, loudmouth, pet-hating whackjobs like Judy Mancuso and her deceptive, dog-killing machine - the so-called "Healthy Pets"?

You fed up with that snarky Lloyd Levine in LA and want to spank his skinny ass for shoving that mandatory spay neuter bill down the throats of dog owners? Yeah - that'll change the shelter numbers - and look for a dramatic increase of the number of dogs surrenders and killed.

Talk about self-serving, self-fulling prophecy - mandatory spay-neuter laws keep the shelters full, kill more dogs and keep Ed Boks employed.

You want change?

Tired of Kory Nelson, Tom Skeldon and all the other racist proponents of BSL and anti-tethering laws?  As IF either of these two types of laws have anything to do with keeping children safe or protecting animals.  NOT.

Yeah, they all mouth the right words, but they come up empty. They're nothing but suits propped up and polished by spinmeisters, hoping you'll fall for their sugar-coated shell games.

That's right, BSL, Anti-Tethering, MSN - they're ALL nothing but a ploy to take your dog, your right to own a dog - and your property - (that's right, Mr. KC Blogmeister) - and deprive you of due process all in the name of "kindness" or public safety". 

You want change. so badly you can smell it. Maybe that's just the smell of rotten politicians.

Get off the couch  and get rid of them - and the smell.

But  to get rid of them, - the Kory Nelsons, the Tom Skeldons  and the Ed Boks - you first have to get rid of the people that hired them - or keep them employed.

So get rid of the mayors, and the city council people in Denver, Toledo, L.A.  Get rid of them in Arkansas and Georgia  and Iowa. Vote them out in Kentucky and Missouri and Mississippi.

You hired them - now get out there and fire them.  It's that simple.

While you're at it - get rid of the people that hire serial incompetents like Ed Boks  - the vampires that make a living off of draining budgets and draining the life - literally - out of innocent animals.

Get rid of the puppets on the string.  Get rid of the people that only parrot buzz words like "Change" but don't really want real change, except for the change in their pockets from special interest groups, like PETA and HSUS .

Get rid of local politicians that like their boots licked by PETA and HSUS.  Get rid of anyone that takes a campaign donation from HSUS to advance their anti-pitbull, anti-pet agenda.

Yeah, I say it's high time for change. Real change.  Powerful change. Get out and VOTE.  Boot the suckers out of office.

Otherwise, nothing will change, except your right to own a dog. Any dog.

So make a change.  Today.

PETA's 97 Percent Death Rate - Please Donate To Help Kill More Animals

PETA has once again triumped  - upping its kill rate even higher.

This just in - PETA killed a whopping 97% of all the dogs and cats it took in in 2006 - the organization took in 3,061 “companion animals” in 2006, of which it killed 2,981 and rehomed just 12 little souls. Numbers don't lie!  Check it out! 

In total,  PETA's own numbers show they KILLED a staggering 17, 600 pets

Thanks to blatent press sluttiness and no real programs , PETA raised THIRTY MILLION DOLLARS last year to kill 17, 600 pets - now that's what I call ethical!

And thanks top the generousity of supporters like you - oh, and Pam Anderson -  - PETA can continue killing, and killing and killing in the name of animals.

My heart is warmed everytime I think of their walk-in dead dog freezer down there...

BOYCOTT BLONDE & BLONDER - Or Stupid and Stupider

If there's one animal PETA never fails to exploit - it's the human animal.

News is that Empire Film Group will donate all of  theatrical revenue from it's new film to PETA - that dog-killing group of scammers.

"Blonde and Blonder"  stars Pamela Anderson and Denise Richards as "two good-intentioned but intellectually-challenged ladies in an adventure of mistaken identities". The film opens  on January 18th, and" is expected to generate tens-of-thousands of dollars for PETA".

Ingrid Newkirk, the self-professed Press Slut and founder of PETA, is starring in the newest, thinly-veiled  PR vehicle, a "documentary" entitled "I Am An Animal" seen on HBO.

While this may be old news to some, having launched last month, I've been chewing the fat on this one for some time. 

HBO and the filmakers completely missed the mark.  The film - or perhaps propaganda piece -   really should be called "I Am An Animal Exploiter".

Ingrid's got blood on her hands all right.

Ingrid Newkirk is the queen of animal exploitation - both human and non-human - for power and profit.

Animal Lovers Sue Los Angeles County - Charges Of Abuse & Neglect

From The No Kill Advocacy Center:

The national No Kill Advocacy Center, Cathy Nguyen, a volunteer animal rescuer, and Rebecca Arvizu, a Los Angeles County taxpayer and animal rescuer, have jointly filed a lawsuit against Los Angeles County, its Department of Animal Care and Control, and the Department’s Director, Marcia Mayeda.

The lawsuit alleges unlawful and abusive treatment of animals at all six Los Angeles County animal shelters.

Among the allegations in the 29-page complaint filed today in Superior Court, the County Department of Animal Care and Control routinely:

Guilty! Tammy Grimes Did The Crime, Will Tammy Grimes Do The Time?

Last night, Tammy Grimes of Dogs Deserve Better was found guilty of theft and receiving stolen property for taking an ailing, 19-year-old dog named Jake from a yard in East Freedom, then refusing to return him to his owners.

It took the jury took less than 30 minutes to convict her of the charges, according to the local paper, the Altoona Mirror.

Inronically, Tammy Grimes' conviction came the very same day that the U.S. Senate passed the Farm Bill with a provision (pushed by Last Chance For Animals) that makes pet theft a federal issue.

CBN News ( Christian Broadcasting Network) has just aired a piece about microchipping livestock, pets and people, entitled, Is There An ID Chip In Your Future?

NAIS UPDATE: Senate Dems Harkin & Leahy Block Citizen FOIA Access To NAIS In Farm Bill

Two ranking Democrats - Senators Tom Harkin (D) of Iowa and Patrick Leahy (D) Vermont -  have moved to deny American citizens the right to file a FOIA (Freedom Of Information Act) form with respect to the hotly contested National Animal Identification System in this year's Farm Bill.

Incredible as it is - Tom Harkin & Patrick Leahy seem to be doing the  bidding of giant factory farming interests and RFID chipmaker, Digital Angel by preventing the American People from finding out WHO and WHAT is in the NAIS database.

How?  By burying a provision in this year's Farm Bill that prohibits FOIA disclosure of data contained in the USDA's National Animal Identification System database, that's how.

What's that?  DEMOCRATS covering stuff up - burying tricky language deep in a bill?  DEMOCRATS helping giant congomerates (and perhaps helping themselves at the same time?)? 

Yeah- I'm talking about you - Harkin & Leahy.

Dems Supporting Secret Databases

In a move that's more befitting of the Bush Administration, Harkin and Leahy are lining up to deny - no, make that destroy - transparency in government by eliminating the ability for citizen's to FOIA records from the (allegedly voluntary) NAIS database.

For all of the outcry from Democrats over the last years about the Bush Adminstration's abuses of power - the secret databases, demanding and GETTING customer records from phone companies and airlines, about secret detainee camps and the Justice Department dispensing with the need to obtain warrants.........

And just plan erasing constitutional proctections and ignoring the Rule of Law.

But now  it's the DEMOCRATS who are making secret databases  and it's the DEMOCRATS that are now planning to DENY us the the ability - no the RIGHT- to access the NAIS infomation citing Homeland Security.

And they call themselves Dems???  Registered Democrats (like me) will be lining up to cross party lines if this baby goes through.
